A temporary set up so we can finally open the cafe

These past couple of months have definitely been a whirlwind of trying to get everything in place to open. Unfortunately, as is the nature of these things, there have been some unforeseen challenges along the way. The main one right now involves cooking safely on site. We are waiting for certain things to clear before that is possible. However, it has reached a point where we can’t really afford to keep waiting. Also we don’t want to! This past week we’ve reached out to the council to discuss options.

As agreed with the council, we’ve come up with a temporary solution. We will prep and cook our main dishes at home and then transport the food to the Stevenage indoor market. It helps to live close by! Still, it is obviously not an ideal situation for many reasons. For one, we wanted to keep our work and home life separate. For another, we would have a limited quantity of food we can prepare in the morning and bring over. That means once we run out – we run out and can’t make more in the cafe. With that in mind, we are going to have to rework our menu a little bit. Our new menu will take all of this into consideration.

What does that mean going forward?

Well, this is the week where we will be finally announcing an open date & our menu. Jenn has also just finished up on getting her Level 2 Award in Food Safety for Catering. This ensures we are working to implement responsible practices and keep food as safe as possible from contamination.

We are honestly so excited to get to this point and soon can welcome you all to the cafe! Wishing you all the best from us at Cha Kulcha. 💛

  1. Lovely to meet you in person today and from a little taste today with all the restrictions in place that been cited (however seemly simple to overcome with council support) but the temporary workaround was wonderful. It’s a massive battle starting a new business but the lunch we enjoyed today we would love to share with friends and family in the future. Thank you. Well done
